Commodity Program

United Tribes of Kansas & Southeast Nebraska, Inc. commodity program is located on the Iowa Reservation on the corner of Thrasher and 330th. We service Brown and Doniphan counties in Kansas and Richardson County in Nebraska. You may be eligible for commodity foods if you are under the income guidelines, are enrolled in a federally recognized tribe and if you are not receiving SNAP (formally food stamps). If you reside within the boundaries of the reservation, Sac & Fox of Iowa, you may also apply for assistance if you are not an enrolled member of any tribe or are receiving SNAP.  

 

Our program prides itself for being geared towards healthy eating. Our selections have increased throughout the years to include the following items:

 

Meat- Frozen chicken breast, frozen turkey breasts, frozen ground beef and frozen beef roasts.

Fresh Produce-Onions, red potatoes, red onions, romaine lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, corn on the cob, radishes, baby carrots, mixed vegetables, sweet potatoes, turnips, cabbage, brussel sprouts, red delicious apples, golden

delicious apples, granny smith apples, gala apples, grapefruit, oranges, pears, mixed fruit, peaches, nectarines, plums, cherries and grapes. All of these items are available when they are in season and  are only purchased in the United States.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Program

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program provides employment and training to eligible Native Americans, Hawaiian Native and Alaskan Natives within our service area. Our service areas are in Richardson and Burt County, NE, 78 counties in Kansas and 23 counties in Missouri.

 

We offer a variety of ways to help our Native Americans to succeed on the workforce and in the classroom by helping with college courses and employment training. 

 

Applications to see if you qualify for the program can be obtained by calling or stopping by our office and requesting one from our staff.

LIHEAP Program

Low Income Energy Assistance Program help keep low income families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs.  The program runs October-March (if funding is available).

 

To qualify for LIHEAP assistance, you must meet each of these requirements:

  1. Be the person responsible for paying home heating costs.

  2. Be within the following counties in Kansas (Brown, Doniphan, Jackson) and the following counties in Nebraska (Richardson).

  3. Be able to show tribal affiliation with a CDIBG card from your tribe.

  4. Meet specific income guidelines that vary according to household size.

  5. Be able to provide 3 months of fuel payments.

  6. Provide proof of income for 3 months.

 If you qualify for LIHEAP, you will get a one-time payment to help pay you main fuel heating bill during the months of October-March. The amount you receive is based on the size of your household, your household income, the type of home you live in (House, apartment, duplex, etc.) and the type of heating fuel used in your home.

If you qualify for Energy Assistance, you may also qualify for additional help through the Emergency Program. The emergency program can help you pay your fuel bills when your energy is shut off or is threatened to be shut off. The maximum amount you would receive is $500.00 to go to your energy provider.
