🌟 Exciting News About Our Sika Deer Program! 🌟

We’ve received some questions about our decision to introduce Sika deer to our livestock program, and we’re thrilled to share more about this exciting pilot project:

🦌 Why Sika Deer?
After careful consideration, we chose the Dybowski’s Sika deer for its size, hardiness, and ease of management. This domesticated cervid is not only more resistant to stress and disease but also aligns closely with our ancestral diets. While nonnative, Sika deer share a strong connection to elk, even being able to interbreed. Their venison will provide a high-quality, accessible option for those unable to hunt.

🍴 Tied to Tradition
Venison has been a staple in our ancestral diets, and Sika deer offer an opportunity to reconnect with that tradition. By introducing Sika deer, we’re helping to put this valuable source of nourishment back on plates in our community.

🎯 Future Plans for Byproducts
We’re exploring creative uses for the byproducts of the processed deer, such as hides, skulls, and antlers. Stay tuned for updates about availability! This program is designed to be sustainable, with plans to process stocker bucks after their second summer to ensure quality venison and manageable practices.

💡 Looking Ahead
This is a pilot project, and we’re excited to see how it fits within our program long-term. With the first fawns expected early this summer, we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!

We appreciate your support as we work to create opportunities that honor tradition while building for the future. 🌾
