🧒🏽 Safety Planning with Youth
Children may not always have the words to express what they’re feeling, but they can sense when things aren’t safe. We help parents, caregivers, and children create plans that give them a sense of control, security, and calm in uncertain situations.
We help with:
Explaining what a safety plan is, using gentle, age-appropriate language
Helping youth identify safe places (inside and outside the home)
Teaching them how to use the phone and call for help
Creating a list of trusted adults and emergency contacts
Practicing what to do through role-play and reassurance
Sample Script for Caregivers:
“Sometimes things can get scary at home. It’s never your fault. Let’s make a plan together to keep you safe, just in case you ever need it.”
🧓🏽 Safety Planning with Elders
Elder abuse is deeply complex and often difficult to talk about. It may involve emotional manipulation, neglect, financial exploitation, or physical harm — sometimes from those the elder depends on. Our role is to honor each elder’s voice and offer options without judgment.
Support includes:
One-on-one elder-centered safety planning
Help identifying supportive friends, family, or community members
Guidance on keeping personal records safe (ID, health cards, finances)
Culturally respectful advocacy and referrals
Emotional support for those processing fear, loss, or betrayal
Sample Script for Loved Ones:
“You deserve to be treated with love and respect. If anything ever makes you feel unsafe or worried, we can make a plan together to help you feel more secure.”
🔍 What to Watch For
Signs a Child May Need Support:
Sudden changes in behavior, anxiety, or aggression
Withdrawing from friends or school
Talking about fear or violence in vague terms
Signs an Elder May Be at Risk:
Unexplained bruises or poor hygiene
Unusual bank account changes or missing belongings
Fearfulness around certain people
Reluctance to speak openly about home life
If something feels off, trust your instincts — and reach out.
